Viva Knievel!

Today we journey back to 1973 to witness the birth of one of the hottest toys of the 1970's the Ideal Evel Knievel line! If you you were a child in the mid seventies there was no way you weren't aware of this toy.

Once again you have brought back great memories! I had the stunt bike set and the scramble van set, priceless!

I've even tossed around the idea of of picking up one of the reproductions on this site:

I had one, and I didn't even like motorcycles!

My brother Tommy could not contain his curiosity about the anatomical correctness of his Evel Knievel, so he used a pair of scissors to cut off Evel's jumpsuit (it was sewn on so cutting it was the only way to get it off). In case you guys are curious, too, Evel was wearing underpants that were GLUED on. And there was no sign of a bulge.

The scramble van was sweet. Best used at the top of a staircase so when you you were fortunate enough to actually HIT the ramp (about one in 20 times!) you got real air...and a good scolding from mom for dinging up the wall(s) at the base of the stairs. Good Times.
